The Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti designed the second type of Daffodil with a new roofline and modified grille. The remaining chrome is replaced by stainless steel and the wheel size now measures 13 inches. The sleek roofline creates a larger front and rear window and gives rear passengers plenty of headroom. The dashboard is sleek and modern, in matte black. The ignition switch was moved to the dashboard, near the co-driver instead of next to the steering column. Because the Daffodil (Daf 31) got thicker seats, which gave more support, this Daf became much more comfortable.
The compression of the engine was increased, which resulted in more economical consumption. Compared to the previous models, the exhaust is no longer visible in the center when viewed from the rear of the car, but curves to the left.
The Daffodil (Daf 31) was available in 3 versions: Standard, L (Luxury) and LE (Luxury Extra). Like its predecessors, the standard version had only 1 paint color 'Padusa' (grey-green) with an ivory-coloured grille, bumpers and wheels. The wheels, 13 inches, on the Daf 31 Standard were equipped with (stainless steel) hubcaps. With a Standard, the dashboard is gray-green and the other parts of the interior trim are completely gray. A Daffodil (Daf 31) Luxury had decorative strips around the front and rear window, stainless steel grille and bumpers and silver metallic painted steel wheels. In addition, the Daf 31 L was equipped with a windscreen washer and a reversing light could be built into the rear lights. As the name implies, the Luxury Extra (Daf 31 LE) was based on the Luxury equipment, with carpet on the floor, armrests in the doors and 2 extra clocks in the instruments for the trip meter, fuel gauge and oil temperature gauge. For refreshment, this equipment level provided an option to let in fresh outside air through the dashboard, referred to by DAF as air conditioning, together with opening side windows. A folding roof was optionally available on the Luxury and Luxury Extra.
